Machine to Machine or M2M technology is the root to the Internet of the things or IoTs and it was first adopted in manufacturing and industrial applications. However, recent years have seen the introduction of M2M and IoTs in the making of smart cities. Establishing smart cities across the country was one of the flagship initiative by PM Narendra Modi. To achieve the goal of smart city, in 2015 a programme called as smart city mission was launched which aimed to develop 100 cities across India which are expected to have a smart infrastructure, decent quality of life to the citizens, clean and sustainable environment through the application of smart solutions.
