With a remarkable economic progress, virtually every country in the Southeast region has opened up its economy for free markets. While many of the world’s biggest economic arena are recording a sluggish economic growth in recent years, Southeast Asia has registered itself as the key driver of economic changes. After the global financial crisis of 2008, Southeast Asia’s economic growth rates have improved and has managed to record growth rates of nearly 5% per year. It means the SE region is only trailing behind China and India which are the world’s larger emerging markets. The economic growth of this region is mainly attributed to Indonesia, Vietnam, and Philippines because of their increasing political stability and their policy on economic competitiveness.

With increasing urbanization, the Southeast Asia region is opting for smart city solutions. These solutions are expected to be in terms of apps, assessment, management, innovative techniques and many more. As per a report by ‘ASEAN up’ on the digital economy of Southeast Asia, there are six major unicorn companies which have reached a high valuation of 1 billion US $. This includes ride-hailing app grab and Go-Jek, Traveloka-leader in hotels and flight booking, e-commerce site Tokopedia and Lazada, and gaming platform giants SEA group. The point is, there is a wave of activity and innovation across Southeast Asia region for every obstruction in the making of a smart city.

In this respect, smart solution for parking has become one of the emerging day to day need in this region. Though digitalization of parking is slowly making its way in digitalize market yet there are only a few gamers in this field. Off-street parking is a common sight in Southeast Asia region but has increasingly become chaotic and it provides no guarantee of an orderly parking. A proportion of parking is free of charge even in places where the property prices are high but it may vary for some other part of the same city. On the other hand, in the same city, finding a parking slot may end up as a hackathon. Therefore, Southeast Asia has emerged as a global platform for parking solution providers. Additionally, digitalized parking solutions could not only generate employment in the region but also these solutions could manage urban environment operate efficiently by reducing the time for finding parking slots and delivering a better quality of solution in everyday life.
